General

What is Futuur?

Futuur is a prediction market: a crowd-powered platform for generating more accurate predictions about future events. Forecasters make predictions by betting on them using their choice of play money, or crypto. Our mission is to aggregate the wisdom of the crowd to generate better predictions in a chaotic world. You can find out more about Futuur on our About page.

Are the prices and percentage estimates for play-money markets the same as those for real-money markets?

No! Our play-money markets operate independently from our real-money markets, which means that they generate potentially different forecasts. For savvy traders, a difference between the two may indicate an arbitrage opportunity!

How can I switch between real-money and play money markets?

Simply click on the Account Balance in the header, at the top of the screen, select the appropriate currency option and click Continue.

Play Money

What are Ooms?

Ooms are Futuur’s play-money currency, represented by the symbol ø. All forecasters on Futuur start with 10,000ø, which they can use to bet in our play-money markets. Ooms measure the accuracy of your predictions over time, and as you build your balance in Ooms, you grow your reputation as a forecaster.

Are Ooms worth money? Can I buy more?

No and no. Ooms are like points, they represent your skill as a forecaster. The only way to win more Ooms is to make better predictions. 🙂

Real Money

How do I trade in real-money markets?

The first step is to deposit funds into your account. Simply send the cryptocurrency of your a choice to the indicated address, and those funds will be credited to your account. You can then use them to trade on the markets of your choice.

What cryptocurrencies do you support?

Futuur supports deposits and withdrawals in Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Tron (TRX), and USD Coin (USDC-ERC20).

Unless otherwise specified, please be sure to use the native network for each coin. For instance, BTC transfers should use the native Bitcoin network, LTC transfers should use the Litecoin network, and ETH transfers should use Ethereum (ERC-20).

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Futuur support at [email protected].

I do not own any cryptocurrency. How can I get started?

Welcome to the wonderful world of crypto! Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies built using blockchain technology offer a novel way to store and transfer value without the need for an intermediary. To purchase Bitcoin or other crypto assets, we recommend using a reputable exchange that operates in your jurisdiction. Some of such exchanges are: Binance, Coinbase, CEX.IO,  Kraken, Foxbit, and Mercado Bitcoin.

What is the minimum deposit amount?

There is no deposit minimum. However, to avoid fraudulent and spam transactions, any transfer that is below the equivalent of 0.01 Euro will be rejected.

How long does it take for a deposit to be completed after it is sent?

Deposits will typically take 10-30 minutes to arrive in your account, depending on the cryptocurrency used. Once it arrives in your Futuur wallet, you will be notified immediately via email and in-app messages.

How do I withdraw funds? How long will it take to receive them?

To withdraw, simply click on the “withdraw” button next to the account balance of the cryptocurrency you’d like to withdraw, and provide the address where you’d like to receive the funds. Please note that this should be your public wallet address for the requested cryptocurrency. Futuur cannot control funds sent to the wrong address, so double check that the address is correct.

Currently we manually review all withdrawal requests, generally within 24 hours. Once reviewed and approved, your funds will be sent to the address you indicated.

Automated Market Maker

How are prices determined? What is an AMM?

Futuur uses an Automated Market Maker (AMM), an algorithm that allows us to provide a buy or sell price for any outcome at any time. This is in contrast with a traditional “order book” approach used, for instance, in a stock market or financial exchange, which requires that both sides of a trade are present at the same time in order for a trade to occur. The AMM approach has the advantage of instant, always-on liquidity for all of our markets, while at the same time maintaining the benefits of dynamic, exchange-based pricing.

How does the AMM work?

Futuur uses the LS-LMSR (Liquidity-Sensitive Logarithmic Scoring Rule) market maker, an approach that builds on the foundation of the original LMSR algorithm, widely used in prediction market applications. Characteristics of the LS-LMSR include the ability to set a bounded loss, and to set a commission on trades. In addition, because it is “liquidity-sensitive”, as liquidity increases there will be less price movement (slippage) with each incremental trade. That is, higher volume markets will show less price slippage.

All markets are initiated with an amount of shares distributed amongst each the outcomes, which provides the initial liquidity. The price of an outcome is determined by a cost function calculated on the basis of the distribution of shares. To calculate the purchase price, the previous cost function is subtracted from the new one.

To calculate the sale price, Futuur uses the Always Moving Forward approach, which means that rather than decreasing the shares in the sold outcome, the shares in the other outcomes are increased by an equivalent value. This is applied when there is market activity between the original purchase and the sale event; it is not applied to a sale by the same user that occurs immediately after a purchase.

Why does the price per share increase the more I bet?

Our AMM charges a higher price the more you bet, in order to limit risk exposure. As more bets occur, prices will be become less volatile, allowing for bigger bets and bigger potential returns.

Do all cryptocurrencies participate in the same liquidity pool?

Yes, independent of the currency used, all real-money currencies are combined in the same liquidity pool. So if you are betting in BTC and someone else bets USDC in the same market, both bets will impact the prices and increase overall liquidity in the market.

Am I exposed to currency volatility risk?

No. When you bet in a given currency, your return is locked in in that currency. For instance, if you bet 10 USDC at .50/share, you'll earn 20 USDC if you are correct when the market resolves, even if the USDC price has decreased relative to other currencies in the meantime.

What is the minimum and maximum bet?

There is no minimum bet. The maximum bet is determined on a market-by-market basis, and will increase with market liquidity. That is, the more bets are made in a market, the more liquid it becomes, allowing for higher maximum bets.
